Gyeongbuk is home of the Buddhist culture from the Silla Kingdom Era and the Confucian culture from the Joseon Dynasty Era. The City of Gyeongju, the old capital of the Silla Kingdom (57 BC-935 AD), is especially well known for such Buddhist cultural heritage sites as Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto, as well as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites like the 500-year-old Yangdong Village and Gyeongju Historic Areas.
