Gyeonggi literally means the area surrounding the capital. Gyeonggi Province together with Seoul and Incheon contain almost 50% of the total population of South Korea. The provincial capital is the city of Suwon south of Seoul.


It is home to a large variety of tourist destinations, including cultural heritage sites (Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, Korea Folk Village, Icheon Cerapia), theme parks (Seoul Land in Gwacheon, Everland in Yongin), the Demilitarized Zone, and nature conservation sites.
