TEFL & TESOL

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) are adult training programs designed to prepare you for the challenges of teaching English to students whose first language is not English. Both TEFL & TESOL courses - provided they are at least 100hours in duration including both theoretical and practical components - will provide you with very useful understanding of the work you are contemplating.

  1. First Preference is given to candidates who have completed an off-line/in-class TEFL or TESOL of 100 hrs or longer.

  2. Second Preference is given to 100hr online courses with a minimum 20hrs of certified off-line/in-class training.

  3. Third Preference is given to candidates who have completed an entirely on-line course of at least 100hrs.

Online TEFL/TESOL?

Online TEFL and TESOL courses have become very popular around the world. Korean public schools currently recognize certified 100hr courses but are increasingly favoring applicants who have completed traditional in-class TEFL or TESOL courses. While some online TEFL/TESOL companies now offer courses that offer their theoretical component online with an off-line/in-class practical component the Seoul & Busan Metro Education offices will not interview candidates unless their course was entirely in-class.

CELTA

CELTA is a professional credential for people contemplating a medium to long term career teaching English. While is is not a prerequisite to teach English in a Korean public school a CELTA is considered a superior qualification when seeking a post as an English teacher to adults or at university level. CELTA courses are offered by accredited institutions around the world but are validated by Cambridge University in the UK which issues the final certificates.
